About
Lawrence Silva
Ever
since his first dance class at the age of five, movement has been
part of Lawrence's life. As a singer and dancer or as a goldsmith,
the flow of design has been foremost. Whether performing at Carnegie
Hall or displaying his creations at the Delaplane Strawberry Festival,
exhibiting his flair for the unique is a life long pursuit.
Born
and raised in the artist community of Provincetown, Ma. on the
tip of Cape Cod, Lawrence continually demonstrated his individuality.
Though
trained as a Classical Chef, the arts have always been his calling.
The color and texture of food was a palette for his imagination
in preparing culinary delights and visual masterpieces. A new
door opened which gave birth to another avenue for his creativity
to soar.
Following
an apprenticeship under the tutelage of Master Goldsmith, Bruce
Holmgrain, Lawrence's new venture became Da Gama Designs. Legendary
countryman Vasco Da Gama was the inspiration for the name. The
Portuguese explorer's passion for discovery parallels Lawrence's
desire to explore new artistic territory. After 18 years in Falls
Church he moved Da Gama Designs to the country. Living in a 200-year-old
log home in Delaplane has been fertile ground for his imagination.
The
combination of colors and textures are now expressed in his wearable
art allowing him to fulfill his desire to create one-of-a-kind
pieces that demonstrate kinetic, as well as color motion, while
finding a balance in asymmetry. By using unusual stones or color
variants of popular stones, his jewelry designs capture both the
eye of the wearer and the compliments of admirers. The inspiration
of his novel design is intended for the individual while the quality
of workmanship will bring enjoyment for years to come.
